Women’s Work continued – #NSA

#NSA

This piece was started back on September 21st at a solo show sponsored by Girls Create Art.  I have been exploring themes of women’s place in society for a while now, using ephemera from the 1950’s – 1970’s.

My last batch of found books included a set of Time Life books devoted to The Teenager in the 1940’s – 1950’s. The information about dating life was really interesting. Apparently, London debutantes had a system for labeling their escorts: N.S.I.T – not safe in taxis and N.S. A. – not safe anywhere. Those would be some interesting hashtags in 2019. The excerpt from Auden, although titled “September 1, 1939” was included in the original paragraph and seemed a perfect companion to the underbelly of mid century modern love.

This new found knowledge and a “True Confessions” style magazine made the perfect combination for a new piece in my Women’s Work series.

Here is a link to the original poem, you decide if it’s a good fit –
