Koi – marker on canvas.

I find that I am most productive on sunny days. Perhaps the guilt of not going outside and enjoying the weather translates into artistic inspiration?

This is based on a photograph I took of Koi swimming in a pond at Main Street Nursery in Huntington, NY. I love going there and taking photographs with my phone, something my son is mortified by. He insists I should get a real camera (like the one collecting dust on my shelf) and take pictures I can actually print out larger than 5″x 7″.  He has a point but I really love the immediacy of the phone camera, being able to just frame an image on the spot quickly and my Samsung is pretty good at photo resolution.

This was an attempt at an abstraction of the photograph, however my representational sensibilities are way too strong, so it came out as more graphic.  I’m happy with the result. It was a good day.
